What is a Pushchair Single?

A single pushchair is made to carry a single child (although some are able to be used from birth with the use of a car seat or a carrycot). Some are light and transform into a double.

It features a contemporary, nippy design and features that make it a favorite with families, such as adjustable handlebars that can be adjusted in height and a large shopping basket. It also has machine-washable fabric as well as a footmuff, an essential accessory for the colder months.

Convertible strollers are an excellent alternative for parents looking for a stroller that will grow with their child. This type of stroller features a hammock seat that transforms into a carrycot, making it an ideal option for babies. It's also light and easy to fold.

A first-of-its-kind, the Larktale crossover is a stroller/wagon that quickly converts into a double-seater in no tools required. It is a great option for parents as it comes with many features, including a large undercarriage in both modes as well as an organizer that hangs from the push bar. There are a few drawbacks like the nebulous zipper for attaching the seat's back in wagon mode as well as the size of the cup holders.

Brakes

A good pushchair single will have a couple of braking systems. One is the hand brake which is usually an incredibly small lever located on the front of the chassis which you can turn down to stop and push off to get going again. This is helpful in urban areas, where you may need to stop quickly or on the pavements of shopping centres where pedestrians might be present. Another braking system is the front wheel braking system found on higher end pushchairs such as the phil&teds dash or the Bugaboo Cameleon 3 which is activated by pushing the pedal the same way as a bicycle brake. This is especially useful when you're crossing rough terrain or while running, because it stops the pushchair straight away and helps keep your child safe.

The left coupling 171 that connects the rear legs 57 and 19 comprises a rod to mount the rear leg 173 to which the rear leg 57 can be fixedly coupled, a gear mounted on the side of 163 within hub 3 of housing 33; a securing bushing 177 to the gear 175 which extends through a slot provided at the end of mounting bar 173 and a cable configured to wrap around J-shaped spool 181 and post 31 of front leg 19. This arrangement causes the rear legs 19 and 57 to turn in the direction of the arrow A 3 to open.

The brake system 215 is comprised of the first end, 227 that is designed to be in contact with the braking cam in second position. It also has another end, 229. The second end of brake lever 229 has a plurality teeth 231. The teeth are designed to encircle the teeth 232 of the gear 233 that is driven by a first rear wheel 59 of stroller 1. When the brake lever is depressed the braking cam stops the rotation of the first rear wheel 59 as well as the movement of the stroller 1. The brake system is operated by hand.

Seat unit/carrycot

A pushchair single is a type of infant travel device for older infants (6 months and over) who are beginning to sit and look around the world. They are often transformed into a My Babiie MBX5 Ultralight Pram in Pink. Prams typically feature more sophisticated features and are generally designed for newborns through to toddlers, with extra padding to ensure your child's comfort.

Many pushchairs can be used together with car seats to make a travel system bundle, ideal for moving sleeping babies from the car and into the pushchair without disturbing them. Some also feature a carrycot which is ideal for babies, while some come with a seat unit that you can use when your Baby Jogger City Select 2 Pushchair: Converts To Double is ready to transition from the carrycot.

The majority of 'from-birth' pushchairs allow you to choose the 'facing direction' of the seat unit/carrycot. You can choose to face your child's parent to bond and reassure your baby, or face the world so that they can explore the world. Some pushchairs allow you to attach an additional carrycot, infant carrier or ride-on board.

A quality pushchair must be able to move with ease over a variety of terrains including grass, pavements and rough surfaces. A sturdy chassis and quality tyres are essential. Certain tyres require air to be added periodically, while others are made from other materials like EVA and PU, which offer a smooth ride.

Your pushchair will be one of the most used baby products you own so it's worthwhile to invest in a quality design that is easy to clean and maintain. A quick wipe down using a baby wipe is enough to get rid of any spills or crumbs, while more stubborn marks can be eradicated by aiming the hot air from your hair dryer at the affected area for about 1 minute.
