One winter, I went to a small hotel in the city that was having trouble getting people to book rooms online. The accommodations were lovely and the staff was friendly, however something wasn't coming through on the computer. I felt the friction right away when I tried out their app. The flow wanted too much too quickly. It didn't help me. It asked me questions. We made the trip clearer. Less work. Less loud transitions. A feeling of momentum that was like how someone feels when they're planning a trip: excited, interested, and a touch rushed. A few months later, the hotel manager showed me their new numbers, and I could tell they were happy to do it. The revamp didn't bring any new features. It got rid of weight. Sometimes the best approach to have more guests is to quit tiring them out before they get there. I have always thought that the stay is shaped more by anticipation than by arrival. ![]() United States v. Patridge was cited and relied on in Scott A. Lewis v. "Petitioners have confused the imposition of the Federal income tax, set forth in section 1 of the Internal Revenue Code and in section 1.1-1 of its accompanying regulations, with the duty to file a return, set forth in sections 6001, 6011, 6012 of the Internal Revenue Code, together with their accompanying regulations. Its Commercial Crew Initiative incentivizes space enterprises to build cheap space taxi services for astronauts and cargo. In 2008, the space agency entered into billion-dollar contracts with SpaceX and Orbital Sciences Corp. So far, so good: As of September 2013, Orbital was performing its demonstration run to prove to NASA that its tech and expertise were good enough to pull off touchy orbital maneuvers and autonomously dock with the ISS. But relying on government capital raises a difficult question: Will the funding continue? Against such uncertainty, sometimes the only response is to take things one (fierce) step at a time, like our next company. Have you ever heard the phrase gradatim ferociter? That's the motto of Blue Origin, developer of the New Shepard vertical-takeoff-and-landing spacecraft: step by step, fiercely -- and secretly. The suborbital astronaut transport was inspired by the old DC-X craft developed by McDonnell Douglas for NASA and the Defense Department. |
